Germination
Sow indoors. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost which has been mixed 1:1 with gritty sand. Do not cover the seed but press into the soil. Cold stratify, 4°C for 2-3 weeks, a fridge is ideal. Remove to warmth for germination. Ideal temp. 25-30°C, a propagator may help maintain temp. Do not allow to dry out. Germination takes 1-2 months. After germination move to indirect light, such as a north facing windowsill. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to individual pots and grow on inside or in a greenhouse until 20cm high. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed. The Sap of Agave can be a skin irritant.
Growing
Can be grown outside. Sharp drainage is crucial so add plenty of sand or grit to the soil is needed. Prefers full sun. When in growth water freely. Keep almost dry in winter. Can also be grown under glass if desired using a cactus type compost.
Cultivation
No pruning required. Propagate via seed or offsets taken in spring or autumn.
