Germination

Sow indoors Feb-Jun or Sep-Oct. Prior to sowing soak the seeds for overnight in warm water. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Just cover with a light sprinkling of soil. Propagate. Ideal temp. 16-18°C. Keep moist. Germination takes 14-30 days approx. and can be erratic. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots and grow on. When the weather warms move to a shady cold frame. Plant out in autumn with 30cm spacing.

Growing

Prefers any well-drained soil in full sun. Grows happily on dry, sandy, saline sites so is ideal for coastal planting. Easy to grow.

Cultivation

Deadhead regularly to extend the flowering window. Remove any dead foliage in spring. Propagate by division in spring.
