Germination

Sow indoors. Sow 50mm deep into 8cm pots or trays of moist, free draining seed compost. Propagate at 18-20°C until germination occurs, 7-10 days. Once germinated grow on in cooler conditions. Once danger of frost has passed acclimatise for 7-10 days and plant out into rich fertile soil. Can sow directly, 50mm deep, 30cm spacing in rows 150cm apart, or grow on a wigwam structure. Protect from high winds.

Growing

Requires support from garden canes, strings or nettings which should be put in place at the time of planting. Water regularly, especially as flowers emerge. Mulch the base of plants to conserve moisture. Liquid feed every 14 days throughout summer. Pinch out tips of the plant once it reaches the top of its support.

Cultivation

Pick beans regularly and on the young side to ensure top quality beans and to prolong cropping. Cook before use.
