Germination
Sow indoors at any time. Prior to sowing prepare the seed, either soak in very hot, almost boiling water for 12-24 hours, drain and sow or carefully chip or scarify the seed taking care not to damage the embryo. Mix the seeds into a soil mixture of 1:1 compost and sharp sand or vermiculite. Place seeds and soil into a freezer bag and cold stratify, fridge is ideal, at 4°C for 1-3 months. If seeds germinate during this time plant up. After 3 months sow seeds into compost, 10mm deep, ideal temp. 15-20°C. Germination takes 4 weeks approx. from sowing. Plant out to final position after 2-3 years.
Growing
Prefers a moist, well-drained fertile soil in full or partial sun. Easy to grow.
Cultivation
Pruning group 1. No routine pruning requires. Remove dead, diseased or congested stems. Responds well to restorative pruning. Propagate by semi-hardwood cuttings.
