Germination
Sow indoors in spring, 4-6 weeks prior to last expected frost. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Do not cover seed but press small seeds into the soil. Light is needed for germination. Keep moist. Ideal temp. 19-20°C. Germination takes 3-4 weeks approx. Transplant seedlings when large enough handle to 8cm pots and grow on. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed.
Growing
Prefers a moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil in partial sun. Ideal for a woodland setting.
Cultivation
Deadheading will encourage a second flush of flowers. The soft-hairy leaves appear in February, the plant flowers in spring and then becomes dormant by late summer. Propagate by seed or division.
