Germination
Sow indoors at any time. Surface sow onto moist well-drained seed compost. Only just cover seed with a fine sprinkling of soil. Seed must be kept moist at all times. Ideal temp. 18-22°C for 12 weeks then cold stratify. Move to -4°C-+4°C for 7 weeks then return to warmth 5-12°C for germination. Germination should then occur within a few days. Can be sown directly in autumn where natural winter cold should offer the conditions required for germination the following spring. Grow on allowing a bulb to form.
Growing
Prefers a humus rich, moderately fertile soil that does not dry out. Tolerates most soil types but prefers an alkaline soil. Full or partial sun.
Cultivation
No pruning required. Established plants can be divided in April-May.
