Germination
Sow indoors at any time, ideally in spring 6-8 weeks prior to last expected frost. Sow 2mm deep into moist, well-drained seed compost. Ideal temp 20°C. Germination takes 10-15 days approx. If germination does not occur in 3-4 weeks cold stratify. Move to -4-+4°C for 2-4 weeks then return to warmth for germination. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle. Acclimatise and plant out when danger of frost has passed.
Growing
Prefers a moderately fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil in full sun. Young shoots may require protection from slugs.
Cultivation
Deadhead regularly to extend the flowering window. Will self-seed freely, deadhead if you do not want volunteer seedlings next season. Lift and divide clumps every 2-3 years to maintain plant vigour.
