Germination
Impatien seeds are prone to infection during germination. Ensure all materials used are sterile/ new. Sow indoors in early spring. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost with added vermiculite. Do not cover seeds with soil. Place in a propagator or cover seed tray with a clear plastic sheet, a high level of humidity is needed. Ideal temp. 21-25°C must be maintained or germination may fail. Light is needed for germination. Germination takes 21-30 days. Germination can be erratic. Once germination occurs admit air to prevent damping off. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle about 3-4 weeks from sowing. Grow on at 12-15°C. Acclimatise and plant out when all danger of frost has passed.
Growing
Prefers a sheltered spot in partial or full shade. Prefers any moist but well-drained soil. Water well when in growth, water the soil, not the plant. Do not allow the soil to dry out between waterings.
Cultivation
Deadhead regularly to extend the flowering window. No pruning required. Propagate by seed or softwood cuttings.
