Germination
Sow indoors. Prior to sowing chip or scarify the seed. Using a sharp knife, needle or sandpaper scratch the surface of the seed carefully, do not damage the embryo inside. Then soak the seed in warm water for 2 hours. The seeds should swell, plant immediately. Sow 6mm deep into moist well-drained seed compost. Propagate 20-25°C. Germinates 5-14 days, but can be erratic taking up to 45 days. Transplant seedlings once large enough to handle to 1L pot and grow on. Pot on as needed. Acclimatise and plant out once danger of frost has passed or move to greenhouse or conservatory.
Growing
Prefers any soil in full sun. Requires a minimum temp. 13-18°C throughout winter. Will require a frame on which to climb. Water abundantly Apr-Sep. for the rest of the year water only when dry.
Cultivation
Top dress soil each spring with compost. Requires little attention.
