Germination
Sow directly in spring. Surface sow onto prepared soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Rake the seeds into the soil. Germination will occur when the soil reaches +10°C. And danger of frost has passed. Germination % is naturally low hence why there are so many seeds in the packet. Sow seed as soon as possible as fresher seed germinates more freely. Thin to final spacing of 60cm.
Growing
Prefers any rich soil, except for very acidic soils. Prefers a well-drained soil and is drought tolerant once established. Can also be container grown. Very easy to grow. Give moderate water until established.
Cultivation
Flowers are inconspicuous. This plant is grown for the beautiful soft green foliage which turns fiery red in autumn. Will self-seed in ideal conditions. Each plant can produce up to 30,000 seeds.
