Sow
Germination
Sow directly. Broadcast sow onto well prepared soil. Alternatively sow in rows 13mm deep and 15cm apart. Cover seed with 3mm of fine soil. Ideal spacing 15cm, thin as required. Germination takes 1-2 weeks. Offer protection from birds and slug attack if desired. Leave in the ground over winter and harvest as needed.
Growing
Will grow in any soil in any situation but prefers a rich moist soil. Water young plants during dry periods. Weed between plants. Winter plants should be mulched during very cold weather.
Cultivation
Very hardy. If the flavour turns bitter blanch the plants prior to next picking by covering with a box of pot a few days prior to harvest. Ready to harvest when the plant has 3-4 leaves. Either harvest outer leaves for cut and come again or harvest whole plant with a sharp knife. Harvest before flowers appear.
