Germination
Sow direct. Sow thinly, 15mm deep into drills in prepared soil which has been raked to a fine tilth and watered. Drills 25cm apart. Germination 7-14 days. When large enough to handle thin to 20cm spacing. Successional sow at 14 day intervals.
Growing
Keep soil moist and cool. Watering is essential. Dry soil will cause the plants to produce flowers. Perfect temp. for growth 16-18°C. Early sowings could benefit from cloche protection.
Cultivation
The root system is shallow and compact so benefits from a compost side dressing. Aphids can be a problem, companion plant with Nasturtiums to help prevent this. Thinning not required if only baby leaves are required.
