Germination
Sow under glass Feb-Mar. Sow directly from April after danger of frost has passed. Sow seed thinly 10mm deep in drills 30cm apart. Ideal temp. 4-16°C. Germination takes 7-14 days. When seedlings are 2cm tall thin to 15-20cm. Successional sow at 14 day intervals.
Growing
Keep soil moist and cool. Watering is essential. Dry soil will cause the plants to produce flowers. Perfect temp. for growth 16-18°C.
Cultivation
The root system is shallow and compact so benefits from a compost side dressing. Aphids can be a problem, companion plant with Nasturtiums to help prevent this.
