Germination
Sow indoors or under glass. Surface sow onto a well-drained seed sowing mix. Ideal temp. 15-20°C. Germination takes 30-90 days but can be erratic. If germination does not occur in 40 days cold stratify. Move to -4-+4°C for 2-4 weeks then return to warmth. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots and grow on. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed with 60cm spacing.
Growing
Prefers moisture retentive well-drained soil that does not dry out in full sun or part shade. Add plenty of well rotted organic matter prior to planting out.
Cultivation
Cut back faded flower stems to ground level to keep tidy. A vigorous spreading plant. Divide in spring or autumn. Apply a mulch of well rotted organic matter in spring.
