Germination

Direct sow as soon as the ground is workable. Soil should be well prepared, deeply cultivated and stone free. Parsnips prefer a light well-drained soil. Avoid sowing in cold, wet soils. Sow seeds at 20mm in drills 30cm apart. Thin out seedlings to 10cm when large enough to do so.

Growing

Stone free soil is essential. Once germinated keep moist not wet. To avoid carrot fly grow under insect proof mesh.

Cultivation

When the foliage starts to die down the roots are ready to lift although they can be left in the soil until required. Loosen the soil around the roots with a fork before lifting to prevent damage.
