Germination
Sow indoors Jan-Mar. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Just cover seed with a sprinkling of soil, 1-2mm deep. Place in a propagator or somewhere warm, ideal temp. 21-24°C. A steady temp. is required, if the temp. falls germination may take longer. Germination is rapid, taking up to 3 weeks. Transplant seedlings to individual pots when large enough to handle. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed.
Growing
Prefers a light, rich, moist but well-drained soil in full sun. If container grown use a special potting mix. Fertiliser is not usually required. Water well when in growth. Will be cut down by frost.
Cultivation
Although technically a perennial Pelargoniums are only half hardy and therefore are normally treated as an annual in the UK. With care the plants may be overwintered in a frost-free greenhouse or conservatory.
