Germination
Sow directly where they are to flower from May. Sow 3mm deep in rows 30cm apart into finely prepared soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. When large enough to handle thin to 30cm spacing. Can be started early indoors, surface sow onto moist well-drained seed compost at 20°C. Grow on in cooler conditions after germinations occurs.
Growing
Requires full sun to do well, once established requires little watering.
Cultivation
Remove faded flower spikes to prolong flowering. Deadhead if you do not want it to self-seed. If you wish to collect seed allow the spherical heads to become dry and brown before cutting. Harvest leaves for cooking as and when needed.
