Germination

Sow indoors. Surface sow onto seed compost. Propagate in a shady spot for 48 hours then cover the seed lightly with soil. Ideal temp. 21-24°C. Keep moist but watch out for damping off. Germination 10-14 days. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots and grow on in cooler conditions. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed with 40cm spacing.

Growing

Prefers moist well-drained soil in full or dappled sun. Requires regular watering. Fertilise monthly if desired.

Cultivation

Deadhead if you do not want it to self-seed. If you wish to collect seed allow the heads to become dry and brown before cutting.
