Germination
Sow indoors or under glass 8-10 weeks prior to last expected frost. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Just cover seed with a sprinkling of soil. Ideal temp. 18-25°C. Water from the base of the seed tray. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots and grow on under glass. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed. Can be sown into a cold frame in autumn where germination should occur the following spring as the weather warms.
Growing
Prefers any ordinary, moist to wet soil in full sun. A rich soil will give floppy plants. Can be prone to slug and caterpillar damage, offer protection if desired. May flower in the first year if sown early.
Cultivation
Propagate by seed or by division in spring. Cut back after flowering, unless you wish to retain the seedheads.
