Germination

Sow indoors at any time but ideally Feb-Apr. Surface sow onto moist well-drained seed compost which has added sand. Press the seeds lightly into the soil. Just cover with a fine sprinkling of soil. Light is needed for germination. Propagate or cover to maintain moisture levels, keep moist but not wet. Can be prone to damping off. Ideal temp. 20°C. If germination has not occurred in 3-4 weeks cold stratify. Move to -4°C-+4°C. for 2-4 weeks then return to warmth. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 5cm pots and grow on. Plant out the following spring.

Growing

Prefers a moderately fertile well-drained soil in full sun. Protect from excessive winter wet.

Cultivation

Little attention required. Thrives on neglect.
