Germination

Sow into a cold frame in spring-early autumn. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Just cover seed with a sprinkling of soil. Keep moist at all times. Ideal temp. 10-20°C. Germination takes 3-4 weeks approx. from a spring sowing but can be erratic and take much longer, do not discard seed trays prematurely. Autumn sowings may not emerge until spring. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed.

Growing

Prefers any moist but well-drained soil in full sun. Can be grown in a gravel garden. Requires little attention.

Cultivation

Will self-seed freely. Deadhead if you do not want volunteer seedlings next year. Can be left to naturalise. Large colonies may be divided in spring.
