Germination
Sow directly in autumn where nature will do the hard work. Spring sowings require a period of cold stratification to germinate. Germination can be slow. Sow 10mm deep into moist well-drained seed compost. Ideal temp. 18-22°C. for 2-4 weeks, move to -4-+4°C for 4-6 weeks, move to 5-12°C for germination. After germination seedling will die down to form a tuber in the first year. Should re-emerge the following spring.
Growing
Prefers a moisture retentive soil in full sun. Feed and water regularly until established.
Cultivation
Prune stems in late summer to 60-90cm height if desired. Will self-seed, deadhead to avoid self-seeding if desired.
