Germination
Best to sow indoors 4 weeks prior to last expected frost or sow directly after last frost date. Seeds are very small and can be mixed with a little silver sand to aid sowing. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Water with a fine spray. Ideal temp. 20°C. Germination takes 10-20 days, germination can be slow. For indoor sowings, acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed. Directly sow in rows 45cm apart and water until established.
Growing
Prefers a neutral, loose, well-drained soil in full sun. It will tolerate poor soil. Water until established, then allow soil to dry between waterings. Pinch out growing shoots for a bushier plant. Mulch roots in warm weather for protection.
Cultivation
Ready to harvest 60 days from sowing. Cut fresh leaves as needed. Cut and come again. The flavour is best before the plant flowers.
