Germination

Sow in a cold frame in autumn or sow directly in spring. In a cold frame surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Just cover seed with a sprinkling of soil. Allow autumn warmth followed by winter cold to offer ideal conditions for germination to occur in spring as the weather warms. Ideal temp. for germination is 20-30°C. The seeds do not like to be waterlogged. Transplant seedlings when well grown and after danger of frost has passed. Autumn sowings will flower earlier. Can be sown directly, into a prepared seed been in spring after danger of frost has passed. Spring sowings will flower later.

Growing

Prefers any soil, even heavy soils. Prefers full sun. Requires little attention. If sowing for cut flower use it is better to sow in autumn.

Cultivation

If using for cutting harvest when all the flowers have turned to seed pods. Dries well for dried flower use.
