Vegetable Spaghetti

Germination

Sow indoors. Sow 15mm deep on seed edge in small pots of moist well-drained seed compost. Water well and place in a warm position, ideal temp. 16°C. Keep moist. Germination takes 7-14 days. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to larger pots if required. Grow on in cooler conditions. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed. May be sown directly in late may with cloche protection. Spacing 120cm. If thinning is required, thin to strongest plant.

Growing

Prefers a well-drained humus rich soil with protection from the wind. Feed every 2 weeks with a high potash fertiliser. Keep well watered but do not wet the fruit. Try to lift fruit off of the soil to allow air to circulate. A terracotta pot upturned is ideal for this.

Cultivation

Harvest before first frosts. Will store for up to 2 months.
