Germination
Sow indoors Aug-Nov or Feb-May. Sow 5mm deep into moist well-drained seed compost. Ideal temp. 10-13°C. Water from the base of tray only. Germination takes 10-21 days approx. Transplant seedlings when they have 2 true leaves to 8cm pots and grow on. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed with 150cm spacing. Will flower in the second year.
Growing
Prefers a deep, fertile, well-drained loam but will grow in most soils and has a good drought tolerance. Water well in hot spells to minimise the risk of powdery mildew.
Cultivation
Cut down old flower stems. Propagate by division in autumn or spring or take root cuttings.
