Germination
Sow indoors at any time. Prior to sowing soak seed in warm water for 24 hours. Drain water and place seeds in a polythene bag, seal and place in the fridge, temp. 4°C for 4 weeks. This period of cold stratification is required for germination. Surface sow the seeds onto firm, moist but well-drained seed compost. Just cover with a fine layer of vermiculite or soil. Water gently and keep at room temperature, 18-22°C. Germination takes a few weeks. Transplant seedlings to individual pots when large enough to handle. Grow on. Pot on as needed. Plant in final position approx. 2 years after sowing.
Growing
This genus is noted for its ability to thrive in poor, wet conditions and can be used in land reclamation. Fast growing, approx. 1M per year.
Cultivation
Pruning group 1. No routine pruning necessary. Prune if needed in late winter or early spring. After pruning mulch and feed.
