Germination
Sow directly where it is to flower in late spring. Sow 7mm deep into soil which has been well prepared and raked to a fine tilth. Only sow once danger of frost has passed. Offer cloche or tunnel protection if required. Germination takes 10-20 days at 22°C. When seedlings are large enough to handle thin to 50cm spacing.
Growing
Prefers fertile humus rich soil in full sun in a sheltered spot. Requires watering in dry periods. Feed regularly. Support heavily laden stems.
Cultivation
Pinch out centre stem to encourage side branching. Cut back after flowering and compost. Leave a few plants to self-seed if desired.
