Germination
Sow indoors as soon as possible. Prior to sowing soak seeds for 48 hours in warm water and chip or scarify seed coating. Sow 6mm deep into moist, well-drained seed compost. Ideal temp. 20-25°C. Germination takes 21-30 days. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots and grow on under glass for their 1st winter. Plant out the following spring into permanent position.
Growing
Prefers a humus rich, loamy, well-drained soil in full or partial sun. Allow soil to dry between waterings. Will require a framework on which to climb. Although the plant is hardy when dormant new growth can be damaged in spring by frost. To avoid frost damage site in a sheltered position away from early morning sun.
Cultivation
At the end of the growing season cut canes back to ground level. Male and female plants must be grown if seed is required. Propagate by seed or via division in spring as soon as new growth emerges.
