Germination
Sow under glass. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost in deep pots. Cover seed with 5mm of compost or grit. Leave outside. Ideal temp. 15°C. Germination takes 1-3 months approx. but can be longer. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots and move to a cool greenhouse for the first winter. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed the following spring.
Growing
Prefers a fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. does not like a heavy, poorly-drained soil.
Cultivation
Propagate by seed or by division after flowering. Can be cut back after flowering, but the seedheads are attractive and can also be left.
