Germination
Sow directly from the end of May. Sow 25mm deep with 30cm spacing. Seeds germinate quickly. Can be started early indoors, from early May, and moved outside once the danger of frost has passed with 80cm spacing. Will require a framework on which to climb which should be put in place at the time of planting out.
Growing
Prefers well-drained, light, warm soil in full sun. If soil is poor add some well rotted organic matter. Will require a frame on which to climb, a teepee of canes is ideal. The warmer and more humid the weather the better the crop.
Cultivation
Pick tender pods when 30-45cm long and before the seeds swell. Pick frequently. Cut and come again. Allow a few pods to mature and turn brown. Harvest and dry the pods. Shell and save the seeds for planting the next year.
