Germination

Best sown directly in spring where they are to flower. Sow 6mm deep in rows 30cm apart in soil which has been well cultivated and raked to a fine tilth. Germination can be slow and erratic. Once germinated and seedlings are large enough to handle thin to 25cm spacing. Replant thinnings elsewhere. Autumn sowings will germinate the following spring.

Growing

Prefers a sunny positions with a well-drained soil. Will tolerate most soil types.

Cultivation

Feed each spring with a general fertiliser. If you wish to collect seed do so before it disperses. Once plant is established it can be divided, ideally in Mar-Apr. Cut down to ground level once the plant looks tatty in late summer.
