Germination
Prior to sowing soak seeds for 24-48 hours in warm water. Sow 1mm deep into moist, well-drained compost, place in a cold frame in autumn. Allow natural winter cold to offer ideal conditions for germination to occur in spring as the weather warms. Can be sown indoors at any time, ideal temp. 18°C. for 6-8 weeks if germination has not occurred cold stratify, move to 4°C for a few weeks then return to warmth for germination. Repeat cycles of warm/ cool until germination occurs. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to individual pots and grow on in the greenhouse for their first winter. Plant out after danger of frost has passed.
Growing
Prefers any well-drained soil in full or partial sun. Hardy throughout the UK. Plant resents root disturbance.
Cultivation
Pruning group 1. No routine pruning necessary. Prune if needed in late winter or early spring. After pruning mulch and feed. Propagate by seed, softwood cuttings or grafting.
