Germination
Sow under glass in autumn. Ideally use a cold frame. Sow 2mm deep into moist well-drained seed compost. Ideal temp. 15-20°C. for 3 months then 4°C. for 3 months. Natural winter cold should offer the ideal conditions for germination to occur in spring as the weather warms. Germination takes 3 months - 1 year and can be erratic. Transplant seedlings to individual pots when large enough to handle. Seedlings can die off, but should return next year after a period or dormancy. If sown indoors a period of cold stratification will be required. Acclimatise and plant out when danger of frost has passed.
Growing
Prefers a moist, well-drained soil in full or partial sun. Can be grown in a cold greenhouse if desired.
Cultivation
No pruning required. After a spring flowering the plant foliage will die and the plant will enter a period or dormancy. Will self-seed freely once established.
