Germination
Sow in a greenhouse or under glass in spring. Prior to sowing soak seed allowing it to rehydrate a little. Sow 2mm deep into moist seed compost. Ideal temp. 15-20°C. Germination takes 30-42 days approx. Seed prefers to be warmer during the day, bottom heat can be used, and cooler during the night. You may use a propagator if desired. Do not over-water. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots and grow on under glass for their 1st winter. Acclimatise and plant out the following spring after danger of frost has passed.
Growing
Prefers a light, loamy, well-drained soil in full or partial sun. Dislikes a highly alkaline soil. In the UK only hardy in the mildest regions. Try growing on a warm west-facing wall, fruit is unlikely to fully ripen on the plant. Extra protection may be required in winter to prevent damage.
Cultivation
Propagate via cuttings of half-ripe wood in summer in a frame. Can be slow to root. Pruning group 1. Routine pruning is not required, can be pruned to a required shape if desired. If you prune hard you will lose fruit production.
