Germination
Sow Feb-May and Aug-Sep outside, or all year round on a warm windowsill. Sow sparingly in drills 6-12mm deep. temp. 20°C. Germination takes 5-10 days. Allow 2cm spacing for cut and come again, 20cm spacing for whole plant harvesting. Autumn planted seeds are for over wintering and would benefit from cloche protection.
Growing
Prefers a fertile, moist , well-drained soil. Requires regular watering, twice per day, on hot days.
Cultivation
Best cropped at 15cm but can grow to 30cm. Can harvest individual leaves as cut and come again for salads or harvest the whole plant for stir-fry. Use scissors for cutting to avoid plant damage. Once weather becomes hot mustard greens become tough and bitter.
