Direct sow. Sow seed thinly into prepared soil raked to a fine tilth 10mm deep in drills 30cm apart. Ideal temp. 13°C. Germination takes 7-14 days. When seedlings are 2cm tall thin to 30cm. Can sow under glass in autumn for overwintering or early spring. Successional sow at 14 day intervals.
Growing
Keep soil moist and cool. Watering is essential. Dry soil will cause the plants to produce flowers. Perfect temp. for growth 16-18°C.
Cultivation
The root system is shallow and compact so benefits from a compost side dressing. Aphids can be a problem, companion plant with Nasturtiums to help prevent this.
