Germination
Sow indoors in Jan-Apr. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Then cold stratify. Place pot or seed tray into a polythene bag and pop in the fridge, 4°C for 5-6 weeks approx. Remove to warmth, 5-12°C for germination. Germination takes 1-3 months approx. but can be erratic taking up to 1 year. Transplant seedlings individually once they are large enough to handle to 8cm pots and grow on under glass for their 1st winter. Acclimatise and plant out the following spring after danger of frost has passed.
Growing
Prefers a moderately fertile, neutral to acid, well-drained soil in full or partial sun. Protect from winter wet by offering a gravel mulch. Ideal for the rock garden or planting in crevices.
Cultivation
Requires little attention. Propagate by seed or offsets.
