Germination
Sow directly in autumn. Sow indoors at any time. Directly, sow into prepared soil which has been raked to a fine tilth or sow into a seed tray and place in the garden. Allow natural winter cold and wet, followed by spring warmth to offer ideal conditions for germination to occur. Indoors, mix seed with a little damp vermiculite. Place mixture into a Ziploc type bag. Offer 3 weeks of warmth then cold stratify. Move to 5°C or below, a fridge is ideal, for 8 weeks, then remove to warmth again. Sow mixture as before. Germination can be irregular. Do not discard the seed tray prematurely.
Growing
Prefers any well-drained soil in full or partial sun. Requires little attention.
Cultivation
Propagate by seed in spring. Will self-seed freely. Although a perennial this plant is short-lived, but self-seeding means that replacement plants constantly appear.
