Germination
Sow early indoors. Surface sow into moist well-drained seed compost with added sand 9:1 ratio. Press seeds lightly into soil and cover with a little soil. Cover seed tray with newspaper. Keep in shade. Ideal temp. 22°C. Germination takes 15-30 days. Once seedlings appear remove newspaper and expose to sun. Acclimatise and plant out once weather warms with 30cm spacing. If weather is inconsistent offer cloche protection.
Growing
Prefers a rich, well-drained soil in full sun. Water only when dry. Water the soils, not the leaves to prevent leaf burn.
Cultivation
Harvest leaves and flowers early for best flavour. Harvest for baby leaf when young and tender. Can be grown to maturity, approx. 80-85 days from sowing.
