Germination

Sow indoors immediately. An early sowing should offer first year flowering. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Do not cover seeds but press gently into the soil. Ideal temp. 15-18°C. Germination is slow and erratic taking 3-12 weeks approx. If germination does not occur cold stratify. Place seeds in a polythene bag and move to 4°C for 2-4 weeks, then return to warmth for germination. Transplant seedlings to the garden when well grown.

Growing

Prefers any ordinary/ poor soil which is well-drained in full sun. Plant tightly together. Requires little attention once established.

Cultivation

Pruning Group 6. Cut back to near-ground level in mid-spring as this stimulates strong, new growth. Propagate by seed or softwood cuttings taken in spring. Can be deadheaded as this may result in a second flush of flowers. Seedheads left on the plant look attractive.
