Germination

Sow under glass in spring or autumn. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Ideally sow in individual cells. Press the seeds into the soil and cover with a fine layer of vermiculite. The soil must remain moist but not wet at all times. Propagate or place in a sealed polythene bag. Ideal temp 20°C. Germination takes 2-6 weeks but can be erratic. Do not discard the seed tray prematurely. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to individual pots and grow on under glass. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed.

Growing

Prefers a moist but well-drained soil in full sun. These plants have a shallow root system and can dry out very quickly. Keep moist until well established. Once established these plants are drought resistant.

Cultivation

Cut back after flowering to encourage further flowering. May self-seed freely. Deadhead faded flowers to prevent volunteer seedlings.
