Germination
Sow in a cold frame in Jan-Feb. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Just cover seed with a sprinkling of soil. Place in a cold frame, ideal temp. 5°C. Germination varies but could take several months. Do not discard seed tray prematurely. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots and grow on. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed.
Growing
Prefers a fertile, well-drained, rocky soil in full sun. Will tolerate partial sun.
Cultivation
Propagate by division in spring. Pruning group 8. Prune April-May or after flowering. seedheads can be left on the plant for winter interest if desired. This plant can be quite dominant, it can be cut back to near ground level in late autumn.
