Germination
Sow indoors in spring. Sow in a cold frame in Jan-Feb. Indoors, surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Just cover seed with a sprinkling of soil. Ideal temp. 13-18°C. Germination takes 14-42 days approx. If germination does not occur cold stratify, move to 4°C for 2-4 weeks then return to warmth for germination. In a cold frame, sow, allow natural cold, followed by spring warmth to offer ideal conditions for germination which can take several months. Do not discard seed tray prematurely. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots and grow on. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed.
Growing
Prefers a fertile, well-drained, rocky soil in full sun. Will tolerate partial sun.
Cultivation
Propagate by division in spring. Pruning group 8. Prune April-May or after flowering. seedheads can be left on the plant for winter interest if desired.
