Sow

Germination

Sow directly. Sow Mar-May for summer harvest. Sow Jul-Aug for autumn harvest. Sow thinly 10mm deep in shallow drills with 2cm spacing between seeds in rows 15cm apart. Water well. Germination is rapid. Shoots should appear within 7-14 days. Thin seedlings to 5cm spacing. Successional sow every 2 weeks for continuous supply.

Growing

Keep soil moist to ensure rapid growth. Sowings in Jul-Aug can dry out easily so require careful attention. Prone to flea beetle but damage is usually superficial, cover with fleece to prevent. Prone to slug and snail attack, treat accordingly.

Cultivation

Radishes need to be grown steadily and harvested young otherwise they can become woody. Wash before storing in the refrigerator.
