Germination

Sow indoors Feb-Mar for planting out the same year, sow Jul-Aug. for planting out the following year. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost, do not cover seed as light is needed for germination. Do not place in direct sunlight. Place in a propagator or seal in a plastic bag to maintain humidity. Ideal temp. 18-22°C. Water from the base of tray only. Germination takes 5-8 days approx. Once seedlings emerge admit air. Grow on in cooler conditions. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots and grow on. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed.

Growing

Prefers any well-drained soil in full or partial sun. Requires regular watering and will benefit from a feed in spring and summer. The plants tend to create humps as they grow, this can be prevented by stepping on the plants to press them back into the ground. Can be used as a lawn replacement in an area with light to medium foot traffic.

Cultivation

Established clumps can be divided. Simply slice out wedges of the plant and move elsewhere. This plant will spread naturally.
