Germination
Sow indoors at any time. Sow into a cold frame in autumn. Create a mix of 1:1 seed compost and sharp sand or vermiculite which is moist but not wet. Add seeds to the mix and place in a freezer bag, allow a little air gap or tie loosely. Place somewhere warm, 20°C for 4-6 weeks. Keep soil moist at all times. Then move to a fridge, 4°C for at least 12 weeks. If seeds germinate during this time remove and pot up. Otherwise after +12 weeks remove and sow 8mm deep into moist compost. Ideal temp. 13-16°C. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle individual pots and grow on for 1-2 years before planting in the final position.
Growing
Prefers a moist, loamy soil in full or partial sun. Will tolerate any soil.
Cultivation
Will tolerate heavy pruning. Can be cut back to ground level during winter dormancy if required. Propagate via cuttings of ripe wood of the current seasons growth in late autumn.
