Germination
Grow under glass or in a cold frame in spring or autumn. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Just cover seed with a sprinkling of soil. Ideal temp. 10°C. Keep moist, watering from the base only. Place in bright light but not direct sunlight. Germination takes 2-7 weeks approx. Prone to damping off, keep well ventilated once germinated. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to individual pots and grow on under glass. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed.
Growing
Prefers any fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full or partial sun. Full sun will offer improved flowering. Water deeply to encourage strong root growth.
Cultivation
Deadhead regularly. Cut back spent flowers and foliage in autumn. Best to propagate by seed. Can be divided in early spring but this plant dislikes root disturbance so needs to be carefully handled.
