Germination

Best to sow directly in autumn. Sow thinly onto the surface of prepared soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Natural winter cold will offer ideal conditions for the seed to germinate in spring as the weather warms. Can be sown indoors at any time. Surface sow, ideal temp. 16-18°C. Germination takes 4-6 weeks approx. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cmpots and grow on. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed.

Growing

Prefers a moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full sun, although it can tolerate partial sun. It thrives in most soils but dislikes winter wet.

Cultivation

Propagate by division in early spring or root stem tip cutting in spring or early summer.
