Germination
Sow indoors. Sow 1mm deep into moist well-drained seed compost. Ideal temp. 20°C. Germination takes 28-180 days and can be erratic. Can be sown in autumn and placed in a cold frame at 15°C to overwinter most seeds will germinate as the weather warms in spring, if not seed will become dormant again. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots. Grow on in the greenhouse for the first year. Plant out in spring with 50cm spacing.
Growing
Prefers a light sandy soil in full sun. Protect from winter frosts. Must be kept dry during dormancy.
Cultivation
Divide plants in late summer after the plant dies down.
